1. Coronary Heart Disease occurs when the arteries that carry blood to the heart become narrowed or blocked by a plaque.
2. Plaque is composed of cells, cholesterol, and fat.
3. The main purpose of the blood in these blood vessels is to deliver oxygen and nutrients to the heart tissues.
4. What causes a heart attack?
When arteries become narrowed and blocked by plaque, not enough oxygen and nutrients get to the heart tissues. When these tissues go too long without oxygen and nutrients, they can die. This is a heart attack.
