What is Hypertension?

1. What is Blood Pressure or BP?

It’s the pressure exerted by the flow of blood on the walls of the arteries.
It is determined by the force and amount of blood pumped by the heart and by the diameter of the arteries.
It consists of 2 components: Systolic pressure and Diastolic pressure.

2. What is the normal blood pressure rate?

120 / 80 MMHG


3. When is Hypertension diagnosed?

When you have over 140mmHg > Systolic / Diastolic > 90 mmHg

4. Primary Hypertension is high-blood pressure without specific identifiable cause.

5. Secondary Hypertension is high blood pressure which results from underlying identifiable and often correctible cause such as KIDNEY DISEASE, ADRENAL GLAND DISEASE, NARROWING OF THE AORTA AND SLEEP APNEA.

6. List 5 symptoms of blood pressure:

1. HEADACHE
2. DIZZINESS
3. BLURRED VISION
4. CONFUSION
5. COMA

7. What lifestyle changes can be made to manage high blood pressure?

– quit smoking, diet with less cholesterol and salt, regular exercise, medication or supplements
